iSpring's reverse osmosis systems appear in NSF's database under several codes, and they do not all carry the same claim list. The bare code, RCC7AK, is listed for total dissolved solids. The finish-suffixed code, RCC7AK-BN, is listed for nine claims including lead and fluoride. The suffix describes a tap finish.

So a reader searching the name on the box finds the narrower entry and concludes the system is certified for dissolved solids alone. Search the suffix and it is certified for most of what people are actually worried about. The RCC7AK is the system that claim list belongs to, and it is our pick on the under-sink page.

The suffix that changes the certificate

There is nothing sinister here and we are not suggesting there is. Registrations get made at different times, and the obvious reading is that the current retail products are the finish variants and the bare code is an older entry. What matters to a buyer is narrower and practical: the string you search decides which certificate you read, and the string printed on a retail listing is often the one with less behind it.

This is the same lesson as Brondell being listed as RC100 and Brita's pitchers being certified by WQA rather than NSF. Certifier databases index by the exact string a manufacturer registered. Get the string right and the record is there.

The modules are the shopping list

NSF does not only name the system. It names the modules that system was certified with, which is the second half of the record and the part almost nobody prints. For the RCC7 and RCC7AK families:

Where iSpring is the only option

Of the brands available to us, iSpring is the only one making whole house systems with catalytic iron and manganese media, and the only one making whole house ultraviolet. Iron and manganese are the problems a municipal supply has already dealt with and a private well has not, so that stage is what separates a well water system from a city water one.

Are iSpring whole house filters certified?

Whole house filtration is a category where a performance certification is very hard to find from anyone: our survey of 69 whole house systems found none naming one. So on a whole house system the credential is not available to shop for, and capacity, cartridge configuration, owner evidence and warranty carry the decision instead.
