Waterdrop water filters
Waterdrop sells the same filter in versions certified for different things, and the model number is the only reliable way to tell them apart. A code beginning WD- is certified under NSF/ANSI 42, which is chlorine, taste and odour. WDS- adds Standard 53, the one covering lead and cysts. WDP-, sold at retail as "Waterdrop Plus", adds 401 as well. All three are advertised as NSF certified and all three are telling the truth.
Across 272 of their distinct certified models, 166 hold Standard 42 and nothing else. Their best system is genuinely good: the Waterdrop G3P800 holds four NSF standards including 53 for PFOA and PFOS, which is more than anything else on our under-sink page. The spread between that and the taste-only end of the catalogue is the thing worth understanding before you buy.
How to read a Waterdrop model number
This is the whole brand in one table, and it works on any product they sell. The prefix is registered with the certifier, so it is not marketing language: it is the model string the certificate is issued against.

The counts come from NSF's own listing for the brand, read on 5 August 2026 and rebuildable with the script in this repository. Of 272 distinct certified models, all 272 hold Standard 42, 106 also hold 53, and 52 hold 401. That leaves 166 certified for aesthetics alone, which is roughly three in five. The certification spread inside one brand
The clearest illustration is on their own reverse osmosis line, and it is the finding our under-sink page is built on. Two Waterdrop systems, both certified under NSF/ANSI 58, both accurately described as certified:
- The X8-WAN is certified under Standard 58 for total dissolved solids. That is one claim.
- The G3P800 is certified under 58 for dissolved solids, fluoride, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, selenium, barium and radium 226/228, and separately under 53 for PFOA and PFOS.
Same brand, same badge on the box, and a claim list that differs by an order of magnitude. Every one of those was read out of the certifier's record rather than the retail listing, with the certificate numbers printed on the under-sink page.

Are Waterdrop water filters NSF certified?
Many are, and the standard matters more than the badge. Across 272 distinct Waterdrop models in NSF's public listing on 5 August 2026, all 272 hold NSF/ANSI 42, which covers chlorine, taste and odour. 106 also hold Standard 53, the health effects standard covering lead and cysts, and 52 hold 401 for pharmaceutical and pesticide residues. So 166 of them are certified for aesthetics alone, and every one of those is accurately advertised as NSF certified.
What does the P in WDP mean?
It is the Plus tier, and it is the one certified for lead. Waterdrop registers the same fitting under up to three model codes: a plain WD- version certified under Standard 42 for chlorine and taste, a WDS- version that adds Standard 53, and a WDP- version that adds 401 on top. The cartridges are physically interchangeable and the retail listings look nearly identical, so the prefix is the reliable signal.
Is Waterdrop a good brand?
Their reverse osmosis systems are competitive and two of them are on our under-sink page, one for being the fastest tankless unit we have scored and one for holding more NSF standards than anything else there. The catalogue is broad rather than uniform, though, and the difference between the best and the weakest thing they sell is larger than the branding suggests. Read the model number rather than the brand.
Where are Waterdrop filters made?
Waterdrop is a consumer brand selling worldwide, and manufacturing location is not something we can verify from a certifier record, so we do not state it. What is verifiable is which model holds which certification, because both NSF and IAPMO publish their listings free and without an account, indexed by the manufacturer model number.
